2.2 oz HEX70 XL is a 70 denier nylon designed specifically for higher strength, durability, and abrasion resistance compared to standard 1.9 oz 70D ripstop fabrics.

Like the other fabrics in our XL line, we've custom woven HEX70 to be WIDER than standard fabrics at ~74" versus the more common 60" width.

HEX70 XL is offered in two finishes (select from dropdown above):

    1) Breathable with DWR both sides - Widebody hammocks, bags, lightweight clothing, or any application where durable yet relatively lightweight fabric is needed. Uncoated but water repellent.

    2) PU3000/DWR& - Backpacks, robust tarps/shelters, bags, dry sacks, or any application needing a durable yet relatively lightweight waterproof material. ~1 oz urethane coating on back, DWR front. Highly waterproof and non-breathable.

When ordering HEX70 fabric, please select your finish with the drop-down above.

If you're unsure which finish is best for your application, check out our FAQ page for quick answers. You can also submit a question through out Contact Us page. We're always happy to give advice on the right fabric!

Super good stuff

Really good quality stuff. Made myself a hunting saddle with it, and it is super light weight. Hopefully it stands the test of time as I'm suspended 20+ ft in the trees with it occasionally.

Don't worry, if I fall and die I'll update my review.

Thanks for making us laugh! We certainly hope you don't die. It's used all the time for hammocks and has a weight rating of 400 lbs. If you take any photos, be sure to share them with us on social media. We'd love to see your MYOG hunting saddle!

Very light, strong. Packing cubes etc.

Lighter than I expected. Be sure to cut each piece completely. Leaving even a thread attached when cutting out your pattern will cause a thread pull through the piece. As long as you are careful cutting out your pieces it’s great. I used most of what I bought to make packing cubes. I mostly use 500-1000d cordura fabrics so this was a change of pace but was still easy to work with as a beginner. Love it!

2.2 oz HEX70 is a favorite here! Thanks for the tip on working with this fabric. We'd love to see photos of the packing cubes you made, be sure to tag us on social media!

Very good tear resistance for hammocking tarp

I used this Hex 2.2 XL nylon PU to make an extra wide, heavy duty winter tarp for my backyard hammock site. I live on a stormy ridge in NC with frequent 40mph and occasional 60mph winds. My 1.1 silpoly tarp has been torn several times by wind and my UL 0.9 silpoly was recently eviscerated beyond repair. The Hex 2.2 tarp is a little bulkier, 3 times heavier but much much tougher. The Hex 2.2 sews great compared to the lighter silpoly. For long distance backpacking, my 1.1 silpoly is a lighter option, although the Hex 2.2 is an option. But for my long term, exposed backyard site, I love the reliability of the Hex 2.2. Thank you RSBTR for great service, technical specs and a wide variety of quality products.

Thanks for your review, David! The 2.2 oz HEX70 is definitely more abrasion resistant and should hold up much better against stormy weather. Anything in the UL weight class <1.0 oz is more delicate and requires more care and precautions. We'd love to see photos of your tarps, be sure to tag us on instagram!

Works perfectly!

I purchased this as a tent darkening layer. I needed some thing that Would make my bright yellow tent dark enough for my kids to nap in there without making the tent super hot. I emailed the team at Ripstop by the Roll to ask what they recommend And followed their recommendation to get this. This seems to do the trick but the final test will be when we take it out this weekend.

We're glad we could help you find what you were looking for! Thanks for leaving us a review and happy camping!

Great Fabric, Dries Fast

Because the dimensions needed were not the normal size for a shower curtain, (108” high by 72” wide), I bought several yards of this fabric to use as a liner for a shower curtain in our newly remodeled bathroom. The fabric was easy to work with, all I did was cut to size, create the necessary hems, then hung it. Done.

The fabric is very light weight and dries very quickly. Perfect stuff for what I needed it for.

What a fantastic idea! We would love to see photos of your shower curtain, be sure to tag us on social media!
