I made some insulated pants with 2.5oz APEX, attached only at waist and ankles. Seems to be holding up. The pants are warm enough to not feel the cold in single digits F on the short walk in to the office. Not sure about sustained cold yet.
Received the insulation on time and as ordered. Plan to double (5 oz/yd) for summer quilt (possibly ≥32F & good if moist) with Ripstop by the Roll 0.66 oz/yd MEMBRANE 10 taffeta nylon material (≈20 oz). Also, plan to use these same materials to sew a weather strip behind the zipper on my Enlightened Equipment Torrid APEX Custom parka.
Purchased one yard of the Climashield Apex 2.5 oz. Once I opened up the package, the material had a fold down the center of the insulation that didn't look right. I emailed RSBTR and within 24 hours had a response from Leslie that what I received was probably a section where the manufacturer splices together two pieces. She said that while it is still functional, she sent another piece of insulation in the mail that day to ensure my satisfaction. The piece arrived and looks great. The insulation feels warm and appears to be great quality. Planning on using this for a small backpacking quilt for my daughter. Very happy with the product and extremely happy with the customer service!
Perfect product for what was looking to find
I made a hammock with built in under blanket and a top quilt to go with it. The climashield 2.5 is almost 3/4 inch thick after expanding. My previous camping hammock set up much too warm, only good for under 60°. This one is designed for Midwest summer camping. I slept in it on 55° night and was pretty comfortable. Below that, would require a hat and possibly sweater. But perfect for my intended use. The hammock, quilt, suspension, and 8*10 silnylon tarp is about 4 lb.
