Climashield APEX reaches new heights in combinations of weight and thermal efficiency. Developed from a culmination of over 25 years of manufacturing experience, this innovative insulation is the lightest and most thermally efficient continuous filament insulation on the market today. Like other high-end synthetics, it also maintains warmth in wet and humid conditions.

Due to it's unique continuous filament construction, Climashield APEX requires little to no quilting. This makes it easier to work with when compared to other synthetic insulations that require quilting panels to avoid shifting/migration. Great for sleeping bags, outer wear, and quilts.

Chimashield APEX also delivers superior warmth at lighter weights with its unique, continuous filament properties, reducing the overall weight of a sleeping bag, jacket or pair of pants. Climashield APEX insulation is highly compressible and maintains thermal efficiency even after multiple uses, being stretched, packed or washed.

Field tested sleeping quilt

I layered the 5 oz/sq yd with the 2.5 oz/sq yard for a 20 degree quilt (they were out of the 7.5 oz/sq yd insulation). I took it backpacking in March with overnight temperatures of about 26 degrees Fahrenheit. I am usually a cold sleeper, but I was toasty warm and comfortable. I also used a wool sleeping bag liner. This is a huge improvement over my previous supposed 15 degree sleeping bag (not cheap), which had synthetic down insulation that often clumps and leaves cold spots.

The Apex Climashield has a very uniform weave, preventing cold spots and insulation migration or clumping. It also regains its loft very quickly after removal from the compression sack. I also saved about $200 by making my quilt instead of buying the expensive name brand version. My quilt (which has a zipper like a sleeping bag, draft baffles around the neck, and a draw cord) weighs 35 oz. I used the 10D membrane sold by Ripstopbytheroll.

Thanks for the great review! We are so happy to hear your quilt kept you toasty throughout those cold nights. Apex Climashield is a great option for quilts and has a lot of great features. The best part about MYOGing is not only saving money, but also being able to customize it exactly how you want it. We hope your quilt keeps on keeping you warm through those cold backpacking trips for many seasons to come. Let us know if you need help with any future projects, we'd be glad to assist!

Good stuff!

I bought this to make a 3 season quilt for my son. I think it’s pretty true to, if not better than the Climashield temp rating on their website. Granted he generates a lot more heat than my old body, but we spent a few nights out recently in the mid to low 20s and he had no complaints. I have a heavier quilt with APEX and found the same to be true.

Thanks for the review Josh! Climashield is great for quilts and we are glad you found it to be even better than expected. We hope your quilts keep you warm through many cold nights to come!

Simply the best

best insulation for most warmer temp quilts, paired with hyper d 1.0 it makes the perfect ultralight quilt, have both 40 degree and 30 degree versions and both are fantastic. Easy to sew of course, and design is simple.

Thanks for leaving a review Chris! We hope your quilts keep you warm all winter. Try a quilt with 0.66 MEMBRANE 10 as well. Perfect for Ultralight camping!

Super easy to work with.

I’ve made two quilts one with the 5 oz and one with the 7 oz variants. I was nervous to try this at first but the apex insulation is super easy to use and wonderfully light and warm!

Starting a new DIY project is always nerve-wracking, we are glad you had a good experience! Thanks for leaving a review Bowen. We hope your quilts keep you warm!
