NOTE - This is a full roll of 1.6 oz Silpoly (125 yds). Looking for smaller amounts? Click HERE for sales by the yard.

1.6 oz silicone coated polyester ripstop (aka silpoly). This fabric is coated with a silicone/PU layer on each side and is waterproof/non-breathable.

1.6 oz Silpoly offers higher strength, lower bias stretch, and better puncture/abrasion resistance than our lightweight 1.1 oz Silpoly and ultralight Membrane Silpoly. Best used when you prefer a more robust material over the absolute lightest weight.

Same silpoly benefits of lower water absorption and increased UV resistance compared to Silnylon. Great for projects such as tarps, tents, ponchos, gear sacks, pack covers, or any application where a robust waterproof/windproof fabric is needed.

Want to quickly compare all our lightweight coated/non-breathable fabrics? Check out the "Fabric Comparison Guides" on our FAQ page.

nice material

Nice material. Packaged and shipped well. A bit too heavy to make a shibumi knock off though. Worked well in moderate winds, but too heavy for lighter days. Turning this into a tarp.

Thanks for the review Tod! The 1.6 oz Silpoly will make a great tarp. We also have 1.1 oz Silpoly that might work better for a lighter sunshade. Contact us at support@ripstopbytheroll for any questions you might have, we're here to help!

12-yard purchase

I am so happy I found this company online! Thank you YouTube for the videos on how to work with ripstop poly and showing another place to order it! No worries about receiving less than desirable cuttings. I actually accidentally duplicated my order and contacted customer service by email right away! Kyle was super efficient and took care of my error. And he followed up to be sure all was ok! Super company. Now I need to figure out what other things to sew to order more product!

Thanks so much for your review Loraine! We're glad you found us and are finding the YouTube videos so helpful. Let us know if you have any questions about future projects or other fabrics we carry. We're here to help!

Very workable fabric

Having used 1.1 silpoly for tarp beaks and the various membrane fabrics for quilts I can safely say that the ease of sewing the 1.6oz silpoly is more than worth any miniscule weight savings you get from lighter fabrics for small items like stuff sacks, drybags, rain skirts, etc. I made a few pack covers for members of our scout troop and rectangle bottom sleep system packing cube for myself. A simple 1.6oz silpoly pack cover is still lighter than most commercially available $20+ options and offers reasonable durability.

Thanks for your review Jody! If you love working with the 1.6 Silpoly we also offer it in custom printing! It would be cool to see the Boy Scout logo or Troop on gear for the scouts! If you have any questions about custom printing or future projects, be sure to reach out to us at support@ripstopbytheroll.com we're here to help!

Great service. Great product.

Good company.

Thank you so much for your review!

I like it

This has a little more structure and strength than 1.1 for not really being noticeably heavier. I think I will use this more, unless I really need the lightest weight (which realistically I don't need.)

Thanks Dan! It's hard to go wrong with the 1.6 oz Silpoly. We'd love to see photos of your finished project, be sure to tag us on social media!
