X-Pac® UVX40 is a high-tech, laminate fabric for use as a reinforcement material in high abrasion areas of your gear, or as the main material in a bombproof pack/bag.

This fabric costs more than other X-Pac ® variants, but for good reason.

Instead of a standard nylon or polyester face, UVX40 uses a blend of 40% Ultra-PE (aka UHMWPE) and 60% polyester. That's important because it makes the fabric significantly more cut and abrasion resistant.

Said another way, when you're dragging it across rocks or accidentally slashing it with sharp stuff, it won't tap out.

With a laminate stack and environmentally friendly C6 DWR, it also heavily resists water absorption so that your gear stays lighter and drier in the worst conditions.

UVX40 is a laminate fabric comprised of the following layers:

    - 40% Ultra-PE/60% polyester ripstop

    - Black Polyester X-PLY® at 22°

    - 0.25 mil PET film

    - 50 denier polyester taffeta

*Note: All X-Pac fabrics are  sold in 1/2 yd increments to help reduce cost for smaller projects. Please enter a whole number of half yards in the box up top. For example, if you want 7 yds total, enter "14" in the half yard box.

I initially just bought this because it's silver. Like others have said, it's really hard to cut, and as with other xpac fabrics you have to be careful that your sewing mistakes fall OUTSIDE the seam allowance, because the holes won't close up. My very unscientific preliminary tests suggest that it is at least as abrasion resistant as 1000d Cordura. And did I mention it's silver?

Thanks for leaving us a review Chris! UVX40 is a favorite fabric of ours. We'd love to see what you made with it, be sure to tag us on social media!

Awesome material

Super strong material that’s got some stiffness to it. Easy to sew, but very tricky to cut. For cutting a Box cutter seems to work best as it kills rotary cutters and scissors (I’m sure laser cutting is the best solution)

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review Will! UVX40 is such an awesome fabric to create with. We'd love to see a photo of your project, here is a link if you'd like to share any! https://forms.gle/svyHyGFQPoMtL79K9

Hard to find a use for

Made a fanny pack with the fabric for biking.
Pros: nice stiff fabric, holds a fold easy, easy to work with and cut similar to other xpac fabrics. Waterproof.
Cons: cursory (subjective) tests with scraps show it to be less abrasion resistant than venom, cordura, and dyneema melange. The black poly fibers seem to want to fuzz up easily around the uhmwpe with moderate abrasion. Problem may be the fact that the warp is primary uhmwpe and the weft is primarily polyester, with the occasional uhmwpe thrown in. Maybe would be better to have alternating 50/50 poly/uhmwpe in both the warp and weft. I suppose dyneema melange is similar to that, and is a wonderful fabric. Hard to find a use case for the fabric-maybe a cool waterproof laptop bag, or waterproof dopp kit? The fanny pack is cool but the face fabric does wet out a from sweat ( stays waterproof though).
If I was building a hiking pack I'd probably go with venom or one of the challenge woven uhmwpe packs instead and use a waterproof liner.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us an honest review on your thoughts about the UVX40! As with all specialty fabrics, this fabric performs very well in some areas, and not as well in other areas. It's all about the maker's journey and learning where each fabric would work the best! We are excited about 2022 and looking to bring on many more awesome Pack fabrics!
