More than enough material

I received my top quilt kit last week , have been working in it this weekend . Came with as advertised 3 yards of fabric . I followed the instructions except added 10 inches to the dimensions (60x90) and had more than enough material to make multiple bags and 1 pack pillow to go with the top quilt.

Impressed

picked up a sewing machine on the cheap so I figured I'd try a backpacking quilt since I've always wanted to try one out. I ordered the frontcountry kit with 3.6oz apex and 1.0 hyper d fabric. Also got the "diy kit" for some practice scraps.
Everything showed up a day earlier than promised. Good start!
After a couple of YouTube vids i figured out how to thread the machine and fill the bobbin, and I was off. A couple hours later and the quilt turned out way better than I had hoped. A couple of seams are a little crooked but the fact that I made it myself is so badass and I'm more than happy with it.

Fast Service, ordered one for trying it out, will now order 2 more for the grandkids. My wife did all the sewing I did the cutting and helped pin it, I think with no experience in using a sewing machine I would have needed to use the extra material for practice. She was glad she had sewing tissue paper on hand (not sure what else to call it). Finished it is about 54"wide x 60"long, I tapered it just above the knees to the foot by @7" each side. I used the buckles that came with it to close up the foot and added a draw string (in a tube made from the nylon) on the bottom to close up the foot. The only thing I had an issue with was the Posi-Grip cordlock doesn't pinch the 1.8mm drawcord very tight, though it seemed to stay through the one night I tried it. I used 1.0oz HyperD for inner shell and 1.1oz Ripstop nylon for Outer with 5oz Climashield, supposed to be good to 30degrees. It weighs 1lb 10oz compared to my EMS 20degree Soltice bag at 3lb 8oz. This is made for May thru Sept hiking trips not winter so I will not be using it till may May. There was quite a bit of material left over for making pillows and stuff sacks. My wife has never sewed nylon before. She usually has her quilt batting between the outside sheets not made inside out as we did with this, (the batting on the outside first). If anybody has any other ideas let me know, we have two more to make. :)
