This was my first diy tarp project. I wanted a tarp that would better cover my hammock and weigh less than my eno tarp. So I started my search on YouTube and like always found more videos than I could ever watch. But the important thing was I found out about Ripstop By The Roll. So I found what I wanted on their website and 3 days later I was using my wife's sewing machine in the living room making a mess as well as a tarp. I was able to get great coverage for the hammock and I lost 10 ounces of weight. I couldn't have been happier. Until my son came by and ask me where I bought my new tarp. Now not only am I happier but I'm very proud of the job I've done making my newest piece of light weight gear. Thank you Ripstop By The Roll for being there for folks like myself. And of course the folks that actually know what they are doing.
All of the Silpoly fabrics are astonishingly durable despite their featherweight appeal. They seem to retain their full integrity and hydrophobic properties over time. I made a minimalist bivy tent a year ago in the .93, and it held up well over ten months of periodic misuse throughout Central Asia. The 1.1 in particular is resistant to tears in any direction. Its a marginal weight penalty over the .93 membrane, but feels significantly more substantial. No matter your choice, you'll find it to be as slippery as a politician, but even as a blind novice with an aptitude for learning through failure, I eventually figured out how to work effectively with it. Now from all my toils, and after unleashing a couple cursing storms, I have (proudly) procured another larger tent, two rain jackets for my girl and myself, and numerous drawsacks of varying shapes and sizes. Thank you guys for stoking the flames of a new hobby/obsession!
Very nice fabric, fairly easy to work with and sew. Just finished building a tarp, so can’t comment on durability or waterproofness yet.
Full disclosure, I'm still finishing my project, so I can't comment on field performance yet. Fabric arrived the correct size, and is very uniform and easy to work with. The stickier in-side of this fabric make it much easier to use than silnylon options in my opinion. Unfortunately the reason for my 3 star review is that the colors bleed/rub off quite easily. I folded my project shiny side in with Orange sections touching Blue sections. After only 1 week of being stored like this, the blue bled into the orange, giving my orange panels a now permanent dusting of blue sections. This is likely not a problem for colors that are more closely matched, and also doesn't impact the function of my tent. But this was disappointing to me none the less.
Great material, fast delivery, order is always correct and complete. Just a great company to deal with.
