Want to keep you and your food safe from hungry bears when camping? We'll give you a hint - the answer is YES

    Enter the Bear Bag.

If you're overnight camping in bear country, a bear bag allows you to safely store food and other items away from your tent or hammock. That way, when Yogi comes looking for picnic baskets, he won't accidentally eat you instead.

Our Bear Bag DIY kit contains all the items (*except thread) you need to make your own bear bag at home in about an hour. We've even created step-by-step video instructions that show you exactly how to do it!

Here's what you'll get with each kit:

    Material

    (1) 1.43 oz Dyneema® Composite Fabric bear bag blank

    (1) 1.43 oz Dyneema® Composite Fabric rock sack blank

Instead of buying a finished bear bag, make your own instead. You'll save money, plus we'll be here to guide you every step of the way should you need help.

Easy to follow instructions, perfect size, great project!

I really enjoyed putting this project together. The instructions are clear and easy to follow (so handy that you can pause and reply the videos). It’s big enough to accommodate longer food carries (5-7 days). The only thing I would change is the size of the buckle and webbing at the top. Even an additional 1/4” would make a difference. There is a lot of strain on the buckle when you have a full bag of food in a bear hang. Otherwise, love it and it’s getting a lot of use!

We love to hear that the Bear Bag Kit was easy to put together and that it's getting a lot of use! Thanks for leaving us a review Meghan!

Excellent product, worth buying.

This kit was easy to assemble and the video instructions were helpful. Once done, my wife didn’t believe that I sewed it myself. The bag has gotten some good use on some lengthy backpack trips in the PNW and is currently n use in Alaska. I like the kit so much, I will likely buy more so that everyone in my party can have their own. If I had to make one suggestion, I wish the nylon straps for the roll top (and buckles) were just a bit wider. I’m sure they are strong enough, but it just feels fragile when handling. I thought the little aluminum doodad for the string kit was neat, but it turns out to be inconvenient to always be threading it through the string to adjust the length. A plain ol’ stick works as well and is much simpler. Overall a good product and I would recommend it.

We love to hear that your Bear Bag Kit is already getting lots of use this summer! I will definitely pass your feedback along to our product team, we're always looking to make things better! Happy adventuring!

Easy as pie

Kit was exactly as described and the online Instructions/videos very helpful. I would suggest trying a smaller roll top bar first to ensure you have it down pat. Dyneema is so easy to work with, but take your time as it's not cheap

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review Scott! And great pointer about going slow when working with DCF. Let us know if you have any questions about future projects, we're here to help!

I can nearly contain myself!

What a great project. It combines the roll top dry bag for food and the small drawcord stuff sack. The rock sack was challenging because of its small size. I can’t wait to get out and try it either this fall or next spring! Thanks for these great DIY projects. Now on to UL hammocks for Chanukah presents!

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a review! A bear bag for the backcountry is a must-have! And more fun when you get to make it yourself. Happy Making!
