Instructions left much to be desired. They are out of date for the materials supplied with the kit - useable but not without interpretation. I purchased the recommended thread and learned that it is not on a spool that is compatible with our home machine, a commercial sewing machine is what the spools are designed for. Got it to work but not a clean or easy process. Finished product is great though!
Thanks for your review Ed. Our team is currently working on updating all our DIY Kit instructions. If you have any questions about future projects, feel free to reach out to us, we're here to help!
I bought 1.1 and a membrane kit for training.
First of all, the cut kit is very convenient!
If you copy the pattern from the panel of this kit before you start sewing, you can refer to this pattern and PDF description when you build everything in DIY and cut it yourself.
The membrane is thinner than 1.1 and slippery.
In other words, it was difficult to make the hem round.
But the finished tarp will be great due to the hard work!
The finished weight is 12.8 oz, and panel pullouts and ground tieout D-rings have been omitted to save weight.
Thanks Jiro for the awesome review! Making your own gear is so satisfying. We'd love to see photos of your finished tarp!
Precision cut panels are awesome. Instructions could be updated. Also, I'm not sure what the cord locks are for. Maybe to make stuff sacks from the massive amount of scrap fabric included?
If it all goes together as planned, this should be perfect.
I've put together an uncut tarp once ... thank you for cutting this kit!
This is my second DIY ultralight tarp kit and it was not pre-cut. The first one I made, I had a lot of trepidation in making it, especially when it came to cutting the actual material. This time, I decided to take the plunge and purchase the pre-cut and boy am I glad. This kit made everything easier without worrying that you accidentally cut the material incorrectly. Thank you Ripstop from another very satisfied and very happy customer. You guys are awesome!
