  • One of the most intimidating parts of any DIY can be the layout and cutting of material. Aside from being a pain, the process can be next to impossible if you don't have a large area to work in.

Enter Pre-Cut Kits. Instead of struggling OR not starting your project at all, let us cut your material for you. With Pre-Cut Kits, our team precision cuts your material to the perfect shape. When you get your kit, just pull everything out of the bag and start sewing. No guesswork, no math, no "Oops" .

The Pre-Cut WINTER12 Ultralight Kit contains all the items required to make a 12' Winter/full coverage ULTRALIGHT backpacking/hammock tarp plus accompanying storage sack. Top of the line hammock shelter

I already own an ultralight hex12 tarp which I really like so far, however I found myself in several situations where I wish I had a bit more protection from the cold weather and wind so I pulled the trigger on this winter tarp. This hex12 ultralight winter tarp is the same material and I just can't be more pleased. I really feel like I own a piece of superior gear with this ultralight winter shelter and I feel lucky to own one. I made my tarp slightly different than the instructions. I serged the two halves together, and then finished the french hem with a standard straight stitch. I also serged the entire perimeter of the tarp, and used a 6mm rolled hem foot and rolled the serged edge using paper stabilizer. I feel like the serged edge rolled easier along with the stabilizer to get a nice finish but the serged step may not be necessary. Also, because I see a lot of high winds in the mountains where I live, I decided to use a square piece of 1" grosgrain as additional reinforcement at the ridgeline tie outs because I feel that area has the highest stress placed on the tarp during winds. Just an excellent high end tarp and I couldn't be happier.

Thanks for the great review Matt! It is awesome to hear you customized your tarp for your needs. That is what MYOG is all about! These are definitely great tarps made out of a great material and we hope they keep you warm and dry through all of the seasons!

Pre-cut Ultralight Winter Hex Tarp

The kit is great and service continues to be exceptional. One small suggestion is for the instructions on reinforcements be more detailed within the pdf instead of various places on the Resources links that are often not linked. The responses to questions was great.

Thanks so much for your review and feedback Larry! We are working on updating our instructions and will definitely make this happen. We'd love to see photos of your project, be sure to tag us on social media!

Great DIY kit!

I bought 1.1 and a membrane kit for training.
First of all, the cut kit is very convenient!
If you copy the pattern from the panel of this kit before you start sewing, you can refer to this pattern and PDF description when you build everything in DIY and cut it yourself.
The membrane is thinner than 1.1 and slippery.
In other words, it was difficult to make the hem round.
But the finished tarp will be great due to the hard work!
The finished weight is 12.8 oz, and panel pullouts and ground tieout D-rings have been omitted to save weight.

Thanks Jiro for the awesome review! Making your own gear is so satisfying. We'd love to see photos of your finished tarp!

Great kit

Precision cut panels are awesome. Instructions could be updated. Also, I'm not sure what the cord locks are for. Maybe to make stuff sacks from the massive amount of scrap fabric included?

How can you top perfect?

If it all goes together as planned, this should be perfect.
I've put together an uncut tarp once ... thank you for cutting this kit!
