Ripstop Nylon | Definition

rip-stahp nī-lon

Ripstop is a plain weave variation, often used in outdoor technical fabrics. Most commonly a higher denier yarn is used to create a reinforcing grid pattern.    Ripstop is frequently used to increase tear strength, reduce bias stretch, improve texture, and add a cool aesthetic to the fabric.

Ripstop nylon is a  type of nylon fabric that can be more resistant to tears and rips spreading. Typically made with a repeating pattern within the threads that increases the fabric tear strength with little to no increase in weight.
