Customer Project: Cowboy Bed Roll

• Modern Cowboy Bed Roll. A bag for any size sleeping bag with wool lining and 2inch foam pad for an all-in-one bed for those who want comfort while wintering outdoors in the mountains. Bed rolls are normally made of canvas, but I wanted something lighter and more waterproof yet still durable enough to stand up to a logger camp. My design is set for a man that is 6'2" of slight build. 
  
  
• 1.    Lay out and cut lining with a slip to accommodate the foam pad. 
  
  

  2.    Rough stich bottom layer. 
  
  

  3.    Lay out top layer and stich edges 
  
  

  4.    Lay out and pin in the Zipper then stitch 
  
  

  5.    Put right sides together and double stitch together on 3 sides leaving the top open. 
  
  

  6.    Make straps to fit. 
  
  

  We found that with the wool we had to create bias tape with the HyperD 300 fabric around all the edges to keep the stretchy wool square so it didn’t walk and pucker. 

• Required Materials:

  5 yards HyperD™ 300 in Foliage
   2.5 Wool US issue Army blankets
   Nylon thread
   We used a 1960 era Juki Industrial sewing machine and it was very helpful. I think anything with a walking foot would be helpful for dealing with the dissimilar fabrics. 
   2inch high density foam cut to 33inched wide 80inches long 
   100inch Zipper 
   2 Straps and buckles
