Like anything that you routinely use, your sewing machine will also need some TLC.
Regular cleaning and inspections will help your machine perform well and last a long time.
This doesn't have to be an investment. The tools needed are ones you can find lying around your house.
You can use:
Cloth/Rag
Cotton Swabs
Small Brush
Pipe Cleaner
Cotton Rounds
Most machines require a small screwdriver for removing the throat plate. Some machines even come with their own. You'll want to have these tools with you before digging in too far.
What to remove:
Needle
Presser Foot
Throat Plate
Bobbin (and bobbin case if that's how your machine works)
WARNING:
Before you start digging too much, please make sure you read your manual or watch a video. You need to have some confidence in your machine. Remember, whatever you take off, you need to reassemble. Always make sure to turn your machine off before putting your hands under the needle.
