For this hammock I used 1.6 Ounce Hyper D in Royal Blue for the bottom (4 yards) and Kelly Green (4 Yards) for the top. The bottom I tie-dyed with black in a snake belly pattern, and the top I dyed in a traditional spiral. I dont cut off the sides of the hammock bottom, just roll them over twice into the sewn hem, and then roll the ends twice making a 3" channel for the ropes. Sew on the tie out points 1/3 the way towards the middle on opposite corners. For the top, once the hammock was sewn I stretched it out flat and tight, and pinned the top in place and cut it to shape, and drew on the window with a sharpie. Take the top off, cut the U shape leaving the flap at the bottom attached. Sew in the zipper and the No-See Um Mesh backed up with Grosgrain. Fit the top back on, and sew one side to the hammock. I must have taken it down and put it back up like ten times. Sew a few feet and go re-hang and re-pin. Use the scraps from the top to make pockets inside and the pack-up bag.Â
On the zipper side I used continuous zipper most of the length of the hammock. Sew the zipper to the bottom first, then pin the top and sew, adjust, sew, adjust until you're done. String the ridge line through the middle and adjust for tightness.Â
Tested down to 7 degrees with under and top quilts. Even with the window open, the mesh hole froze solid, so maybe include the ability to unzip the mesh as well. Â
