Customer Project: Hammock winter sock
by Sean
- I created this sock with the Ripstop By The Roll kit
- I used the directions provided with the kit with a couple of exceptions. After sewing the two panels together at the top I added ventilation windows made from Monolite. For those I cut the shape I wanted and folded over and sewed down the edge. Placing the folded side towards the inside of the panel I taped it in place with painter’s tape. Then I sewed it in place, marked 1” inside the stitch line and cut the panel along that line insuring I didn’t cut the Monolite. Then fold the edge under and stitch down so there are any exposed seams.
I didn’t put the elastic cord channels in the ends but sewed a mitten hook to connect to my hammock end loops.
The top seam was flat feld and the bottom seam was finished with grosgrain.
One recommendation I would have is to NOT cut the fabric to 50” width like it shows in the instructions. The wider the fabric the better, it will ensure when you a laying in your hammock the sock won’t be so tight it will compress your quilt and reduce it’s insulation value. -
