I've used the robic 7d on three items, the footbox of a down quilt, a 0.7 cuben floored bivvy (along with a more breathable fabric and mesh) and as the shell of an apex overbag. Its very strong for its weight and ideal for the damp British climate. Great service as usual from RSBTR
3.5* Rating - Excellent Feel, unsure about utility
Long history with fabric and in a nutshell I am unsure vs. impressed vs. unimpressed by this fabric. I am giving it 4 stars because it feels like a gorgeous ultralight SilNylon, and I trust in it's advertised water repellency and that it is more breathable than other silnylon fabrics. I believe the advertising mostly due to this retailers sourced high quality DWR and UltraLow-Denier fabri). I have worked with almost every fabric available from cottage retailers and the following is a list of deductions in my opinion.
-0.5* (now 4.5 star) due to obvious tactile silnylon feeling and general impression and thus will be only marginally better or worse than silnylon for "waterproof" and same with breathability.
-0.5* (now 4.0 star) due to lack of trade off value for weight for stretch (when wet) factor according to online reviews, therefore will not make a tarp to my preferred liking and limits this fabric and it's MYOG use. Also for the lack of instruction for use with this fabric and requiring use of google searches for field use instruction or review. This is exceptional fabric but does not appear waterproof and breathable by on trail standards even though brand new fabric may test well in the lab.
Personally I experiment with UnderCovers for hammocks which suspend added closed cell pads or synthetic insulation via shock cord and this fabric is 5* PERFECT for that (at least the sides). This fabric seems fair for waterproof utility based on reviews and excellent for wind resistance which would make it a good outer layer for undercover or UnderQuilt but it's use in quilts is narrow and limited vs the vapor resistance. This is such a lightweight fabric. There are limitations as with all fabrics but this seems like the flagship in ultralight silnylon (with all the nylon weaknesses which I am generally OK with minus stretch properties). Thank you for this fabric, I am excited to use it in the field and will be ...
The fabric itself is exceptional. It is a fantastic Ultralight hammock now, my only complaint isn't even a complaint: just wish there were some resources for sewing tips on each fabric because this was so light I had to find a way to keep it from being stuffed down into my machine!
This company has the best fabrics. I can't find this stuff anywhere else and they have great prices too. I would like it if they have more swatch books though!
Bought 6 yards of 3 materials cut and folded and arrived in 4 days. Will be coming back for future projects! If only I could find a merino wool company by the yard
