Thanks RipStop by the Roll! First time customer, long time sewist and camper. Ordered the wide Silpoly to make a tarp for my son's weekend warrior van. He wanted a way to stay dry between the back doors which will be his kitchen. Had to pack small and light and be functional for back country hiking trips too. Used cordura patches for wear points and tieout reinforcement. Great website and excellent response time to my emailed questions. Fabric arrived in a timely fashion and was as described. Happy with the shopping experience and the finished project. Useful videos and blogs featuring other projects and sewing techniques and tips!
Thank you so much for the kind review Nancy! We are so glad that the resources were helpful in making your son's van tarp! We'd love to see pictures, here is the link if you'd like to share!
After purchase of 1.1silpoly xl for a tarp and 1.0 hyper d and all hardware for a hammock the first trip went splendidly. 10 hrs of moderate rain dry as a bone .I must admit to spraying the tarp with silicone water repellent in anticipation of a rainy 4days, great experience, quality products will always recommend .
Thanks so much Larry! Great choices for your DIY Hammock and Tarp! It's great to get the rain test out of the way on your first trip so you can feel extremely confident the next time you take it out. Happy Hammocking!
Easy to make, fits nicely.
Thanks for leaving a review Janice! We're glad to hear that the 1.1 oz Silpoly worked well for you backpack cover. Let us know if you have any questions about future projects, we're here to help!
Absolutely beautiful fabric to work with, not super slippery like silnylon I’ve used in the past. Used it to make me and a couple of friends solo tarps 2.85m x 1.75m (112 inches x 69 inches). Bigger than anything I could find to buy, ended up being 350g (12.3oz) including guy lines. Bringing my total shelter weight down to under 24oz
Saving weight and making your own gear is a great feeling! Thanks for leaving us a review. We'd love to see photos of some of the hammocks you made, here is a link if you'd like to share any
The wide width made sewing up a simple light tarp fairly easy with no midline seem. I didn't find the silpoly difficult to sew but did sweat it while sewing the long hems.
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review Alan! The XL Silpoly is perfect for tarps, and it really makes life much easier to not have to worry about that middle tarp seam. Enjoy your new DIY tarp!
