Patterns take the guesswork out of the making process. We’ve all been halfway through a project and realized that we forgot a crucial part.

With the patterns from Learn MYOG you can bet on yourself to make kick ass items.

Go further down the trail and get deeper into the forest with the trail running backpack pattern. This day pack has modern vest features while balancing alpine pack modularity to maximize comfort and capabilities.

A four-pocket vest-style design makes stashing items easy. Two stretch mesh pockets can fit up to a 500ml soft flask. While two zippered pockets on the ribs will help you stay fueled on a long day out. This pocket is great for snacks, an inhaler, headphones, or other small items that you want to be secured.

Designed with a simple and clean faced design means you won’t get hung up on any branches or risk unnecessary abrasions when scrambling. The simple face also delivers a clean slate for you to add an external pocket, daisy chains, or other mounting points. Two side compression cords will minimize bounce when you’re not at capacity.

  • Sewing Skill Level - Intermediate to Advanced

Both of the LearnMYOG backpack patterns are more involved projects as you'll be sewing multiple slippery fabric layers and thick webbing, stretch mesh pockets, working with foam panels/shoulder straps, and precisely sewing curved seams. The trail running backpack is a bit less technical in general, so this pattern is  a good place to start if you want to jump into making backpacks. A more experienced maker can work through this project with ease.  While the instructions detail every step, familiarity with sewing terms and construction techniques is expected. If comfortable making the  the Bikepacking Frame bag set, this is a great next step in the DIY journey!

    Further info on pattern:

Comfort was prioritized by loading the pack through widely dispersed straps that cast over the shoulder and redistribute under the arm and through the rib area. Highly adjustable features on the chest and the rib make this pack easily adjustable depending on the layers that you have on. These features also make the pack great for people in many types of bodies.
