Looking for wider, stronger, and more durable? Meet 1.7 oz ROBIC® XL Hybrid - the latest addition to our custom woven, lightweight ROBIC fabric line and built from the ground up to outperform similar weight standard nylon fabrics.

Like all materials in our ROBIC line, the difference starts with the yarn. See below for a typical comparison between fabrics using standard Nylon 6 yarn and ROBIC® yarn:

    ROBIC vs Nylon 6

Translation? ROBIC® fabrics are up to 50% stronger with 2.5x the tear strength. In other words, it's hard to break and tough to rip.

We also did something we've never done before. We call it a Hybrid weave, and essentially what it means is that we use a thicker, stronger yarn for the ripstop grid (120D) vs the base fabric (40D). The result is a stronger, more rugged material with minimal increase in overall finished weight.

To reduce bias stretch and increase abrasion resistance, 1.7 oz ROBIC® XL Hybrid also uses a diamond hybrid ripstop grid. This makes it easier to sew, increases comfort for load bearing applications (e.g. hammocks), and extends the overall life of the fabric.

Like the other fabrics in our XL line, we've custom woven 1.7 oz ROBIC® XL Hybrid to be WIDER  than standard fabrics at 68" versus the more common 60" width.

1.7 oz ROBIC® XL Hybrid is great for widebody hammocks, rugged synthetic quilt shells, chairs, lightweight bags, or any application where lightweight, strong, and highly durable fabric is needed.

My first hammock

This stuff is great! Very easy to work with, soft and able to support my weight. I am not a light guy at 250lbs.

1.7 Robic XL

This is a great material for hammocks. It has the perfect balance of stretch and firmness with a great feel.

Hammock and a suggestion

Bought 4 yards of the foliage green for an 11' hammock,. Strong and comfy, color is great, it's like a green grey vs the charcoal grey.

Suggestion I would have for RBTR would be to give me an option to pay a couple more dollars to have the ends cut perfectly straight following the ripstop grid vs just including 3-4 extra inches and leaving it to me to square up the fabric. On most narrower fabrics this is easy to do but with fabric this wide I'd be willing to bet that many customers don't have a place to lay out a piece of fabric to make that square cut, at least easily. I'd have gladly paid a few more dollars to have that done when delivered.

Great product and service.

Awesome material, but less than ordered

Perfect material width and feel for a hammock. Very light, flexible and smooth.

However, I bought 3 meters and only received 2.80, which makes me really unhappy about the resulting hammock size after the finish.

Why did this happen, RBTR?

Hi there, All of our fabrics are sold by the yard, so you would've actually ordered 3 yards of fabric. 2.8 meters is about 3.06 yards. Thanks!
Makes a great hammock!!

I was hoping to use this on a scout camping trip this past weekend but loaned it to a friend. Not only am I hooked on this stuff, but I just ordered 8 more yards to make 2 more hammocks. One for my friend, and another for one of the other leaders.

Hey Michael! We are considering putting a new website banner that says 'WARNING: EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE HAMMOCK STUFF HERE'. In all seriousness, thanks for your business. Hope you get a ton of good use out of your hammocks.
